Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about appointments, funding and what to expect at Total Health Orange.
Getting Started
-
No GP referral is required. You can contact us at any time. Our online referral form simply helps us gather the details we need to match you with the right clinician. We are also happy to work alongside your GP, paediatrician, specialist or school if you would like them involved.
-
We provide Occupational Therapy, Exercise Physiology and Psychology for children, teens and adults. Our team can work together to support physical, emotional, behavioural and functional goals.
-
For Occupational Therapy and Exercise Physiology, we often begin with a parent/carer consultation to understand your child’s history and your concerns. This is typically followed by an assessment session with your child and then a feedback/goals session where we agree on a practical plan.
For Psychology, therapy generally begins from the first appointment. -
Adult Occupational Therapy and Exercise Physiology usually begin with a history-taking and information-gathering session so we can understand your goals and day-to-day challenges.
For Psychology, therapy generally begins from the first appointment.
-
Complete our online referral form. We will review your information to ensure we are the right fit and then contact you with next steps - either an appointment offer or an estimated wait time.
Funding & fees
-
Yes - we support both Plan-Managed and Self-Managed NDIS clients. If you’re unsure how to use your funding, we can talk you through the options.
-
Plan-Managed clients: we invoice your plan manager.
Self-Managed clients: we invoice you directly and you can claim reimbursement via the NDIS portal. We will keep the process clear and straightforward. -
Many private health funds offer rebates for allied health services. We offer HICAPS in the clinic, or you can submit your invoice to your private health insurer.
-
Yes. Eligible clients may be able to claim Medicare rebates for psychology sessions with a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (and required referral paperwork).
-
Fees vary depending on the service and appointment length. We’ll always discuss costs upfront so you feel clear and supported before starting.
Appointments & Logistics
-
Wait times vary depending on the service, therapist and current demand. When you enquire, we’ll share realistic timeframes and discuss alternatives where suitable.
-
Most sessions are clinic-based. Community, home or school visits may be available depending on the service and your goals. Let us know what you’re looking for, and we will explain what is possible.
-
It depends on your goals, funding and your therapist’s recommendations. Some people attend weekly or fortnightly, while others benefit from shorter blocks of therapy and a home program. We will guide you after your initial assessment.
-
We appreciate as much notice as possible if you need to change an appointment. Late cancellations or missed sessions may incur the full fee, as that time is reserved for you.
-
If we can’t offer ongoing sessions straight away, we will still aim to get you started with an initial appointment where possible. We can then provide practical strategies, a home program, or recommend a therapy kit so you’re not waiting without support.
Finding the right support
-
We support a wide range of needs - including developmental concerns, emotional regulation, behaviour support, motor skills, pain and injury recovery, chronic health conditions, and functional independence across everyday life.
We also provide support for ADHD, Autism (Level 1) and mental health, with practical strategies that can help at home, school and work.
If you’re unsure which service is the best fit, we’re happy to guide you to the right starting point.
